Hey Confederate Apologists: How Would You Like An Al Qaeda Flag Flying Over New York City?

I have largely avoided the whole Confederate Flag battle, because I live in the South and have a bunch of friends who claim the flag represents heritage, not hate. So, being that I am a considerate person, I have just stayed away from the topic; but, I’m done with that now. Yesterday, my local news posted an article about U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fl) proposing a statue of Florida Confederate General Kirby Smith be removed from the Capitol building. The Confederate apologists went wild! They couldn’t believe that a lawmaker wanted to remove the statue of such a “great man!” How dare she?!

So that got me thinking: How would the people complaining about the statue removal or flag removal feel if an Al Qaeda flag or 9/11 hijackers statue was suddenly put on prominent display in New York City?

The first thing the ignorant Confederacy supporting fools will say is,”That’s not a fair comparison!” Yes it is, and I will tell you why.

The Confederacy started a war with our government because they didn’t want to give up their slaves. Southern fools will say “they weren’t traitors! They were defending states’ rights against a tyrannical government. It had nothing to do with slavery!!”

Bullshit.

I have read the secession papers, they are on display in many places around the South and every single state mentioned slavery. They committed the textbook definition of treason in order to continue to own black people and work them to death. Almost a million Americans died as a result of the war. The South’s actions killed almost a million people.

So, why is it okay to honor people who are responsible for the deaths of almost a million Americans? The 9/11 hijackers are responsible for the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans, a fraction of the deaths the Confederacy killed; but, if someone erected statues or flags representing them the backlash would be unbelievable.

The hypocrisy is absolutely disgusting. We are supposed to accept constant reminders of a bloody war started by a bunch of traitors, because people have some misguided feeling that it is their heritage? Since when has it ever been okay to honor terrorists?

Newsflash: It’s not okay. EVER! Not even when they were white Christians and not Islamists.

Many want to claim that the Battle Flag is not a racist symbol but just a symbol of Southern pride. When it is pointed out that it is THE flag used by the KKK it is said that they stole the symbol. Well there is a parallel, the swastika. It is an ancient symbol that was used by the Nazis and will forever be tainted by it’s use. If you truly feel the Battle Flag has been misrepresented then it is up to you to reclaim it. Whenever you see it used to intimidate a black person, take it down, protest its’ use. If you see it alongside a disparaging picture of the President, take it down, protest its’ use. If there is a protest by blacks and the flag is used by anti-protesters, take it down, protest its’ use. It is your symbol, it is up to you to protect it. If you don’t then it is no longer yours, it is the racists’ symbol now.

History is indeed written by the winners, and the losers are now called “traitors.”
