NBC News and MSNBC held the first ever Commander-in-Chief forum during a presidential election season. The idea was to bring veterans issues, national security, and the military front and center in the political discourse as we all prepare to cast our votes in this presidential election.
At the end of the forum, instead of focusing on the issues, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus decided to go full sexist against Hillary Clinton on Twitter rather than let the country focus on the clear fact that his candidate has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about.
Preibus decided it would be a good time to use the classic “smile” trope that men toss out so casually at women, as if it is the woman’s job to wear the facial expression that the man demands.
Priebus tweeted:
“HillaryClinton was angry + defensive the entire time - no smile and uncomfortable - upset that she was caught wrongly sending our secrets.”
We took a screenshot of the tweet, in case old Reince decides to delete on the sly due to the beating he is taking:
No, you moron. She was being serious because the issues being discussed are serious ones. Then again, if it’s a woman, she’s not allowed to be serious, right?
Well, the internet was having none of it. Here are just a few tweets slamming Priebus for his overt sexism:
@Reince You're right, though, when a commander in chief-to-be is discussing terrorism, combat forces, etc., she should smile more.
Asshat.

@Reince veteran suicide, a broken VA health system, US blood and treasure at stake - not much of a smiling matter.

.@Reince @HillaryClinton also did you see what she was wearing? Totally asking for it.

@Reince @HillaryClinton “Smile for the camera pretty lady!” You’re a misogynist asshole.

@Reince @HillaryClinton you’re not smiling in your profile pic. Are you a troll? Do you hate people? How dare you.

.@Reince OTOH, she managed not to praise Putin or call male military members inevitable rapists.
— Derek Wood (@InstaDerek) September 8, 2016
.@Reince Did you seriously just suggest @HillaryClinton should have smiled more while talking about these important issues?

@Reince and the GOP candidate praises Putin while trashing our military. I will vote Democrat for the first time in 45 years-resign Reince

And the well deserved beating just keeps coming. These people want us to think that they don’t have any issues with women, that they aren’t misogynists despite the GOP’s many anti-woman policies?
Their committee chairman goes and proves what we all know: the right-wing guys who make up the GOP and its leadership definitely have big problems with women, and this tweet is just one more piece of proof of that.
