We all know that Donald Trump knows nothing about foreign policy, despite his assertion that he knows “more about ISIS than the generals do.” However, something very pointed happened: when confronted with what his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, has said regarding the handling of the humanitarian crisis in Syria, Trump openly admitted that he not only doesn’t talk to Pence about it, but also disagrees with him, too.
Trump was questioned regarding his policy on Assad, the authoritarian leader of Syria, and he said of his position with regards to that of Pence:
“He [vice presidential nominee Pence] and I haven’t spoken, and I disagree. I believe we have to get ISIS. We have to worry about ISIS, before we can get too much more involved. I don’t like Assad at all, but Assad is killing ISIS. Russia is killing ISIS, and Iran is killing ISIS. And those three have now lined up because of our weak foreign policy.”
Trump then went on to accuse his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, of having something to do with the Iran deal that he hates so much, even though she wasn’t even Secretary of State at the time the deal took place. When reminded of that fact, he accused Hillary of still being secretly working with President Obama after she left office:
“With Iran, who you made very powerful with the dumbest deal I’ve ever seen, the Iran deal, with the $1.7 billion in cash, which is enough to fill up this room.”
Trump then rambled on about how “strong” Iran is, and how Hillary and Obama did it, and he also managed to praise Assad during the exchange as well. In fact, the entire exchange can be summed up in this tweet from New York Times reporter Mike Isaac:
CNN commentators choking on their own spit trying to parse the logic in praising Assad and tossing your VP under the bus in the same breath

In other words, Trump didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, so he instead trampled all over his own running mate while making absolutely no sense at all and lying through his teeth.
This guy has no business with the nuclear codes. He’s a complete ignoramus on critical world issues, and would make the world less safe.
