It’s no secret that Ann Coulter is, by any measure, a horrible human beingish creature. What might be a little less known is that she is just as grating to some on the right as she is to everyone on the left.
During the last night of the Democratic Convention, Khizr Khan, the father of Humayun Saqib Muazzam Khan, an American soldier that died saving several other soldiers from a suicide bomber, tore Donald Trump apart:
Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son the best of America. If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America,” he said. “Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, and even his own party leadership. Donald Trump loves to build walls and ban us from this country.”
Addressing Trump directly he said, “Let me ask you, have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy,” before adding, “You have sacrificed nothing!”
Ann Coulter responded with her usual level of hate and bigotry:
You know what this convention really needed? An angry Muslim with a thick accent like Fareed Zacaria.

Because for a woman that claims to worship the military, it’s perfectly OK to insult them if they happen to be Muslim and have an accent.
But Raw Story reports that this did not go over well with several well-known conservatives:
@HeywoodJp @AnnCoulter I can’t believe I fought to defend this sham of a party! CC @GOP @Reince @realDonaldTrump @seanhannity @rushlimbaugh

@AnnCoulter What is wrong with you, has hate so consumed you that you have zero humanity? You are part of the reason I am #NeverAgainGOP
— Libertarian Rick (@AOTR_Host) July 29, 2016
I’m ashamed ever to have known you. https://t.co/AkddX4uNa0

What a terrible thing to say about a man whose son died for this country. https://t.co/h9Zp4x3j6v
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) July 29, 2016
That’s the same Erick Erickson who has built a career out of saying horrible stuff and even HE thought this was too much. That should tell you something.
Part of the problem here is that after the oppressive ugliness of the Republican convention, the Democratic convention has been a breath of fresh air, even for conservatives. In the spirit of wanting something more than just concentrated hate, Ann Coulter’s nastiness was just too much.
To be fair, Coulter’s entire business plan is to be increasingly awful so she can sell books:
NO! With Trump, it’s going to be ‘E Pluribus Awesome!’ https://t.co/OUz7LfNwq5 via @amazon
— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 29, 2016
But it looks like she’s almost at the end of the road and Trump represents her last shot at making money before she has to start writing books exclusively geared towards neo-Nazis and the KKK. There’s really no place left to go after the slow motion disaster that is Trump.
Unfortunately for the right, they’re hitched to the Trump Train now and they have to ride it over the cliff. If we’re all very lucky, the survivors will pull themselves from the wreckage and reject the blind rage and hate that Coulter and Trump represent. If not, the conservative movement in America is going to degenerate into the kind of incoherent hate that Coulter’s tweet perfectly encapsulates and that’s bad for the entire country.
