This week’s Democratic National Convention featured music stars like Katy Perry, Third Eye Blind, Lada Gaga, Andra Day, and Alicia Keys just to name a few. They also had some big name Hollywood stars such as Chloe Grace Moretz, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ted Danson, Rosie Perez, Kal Penn, Lenny Kravitz, Angela Bassett, Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Banks, and Meryl Streep. There were too many stars to name. You can check out the complete list here.
Meanwhile, last week’s Republican National Convention mainly featured country music artists, such as Chris Jansen and Rascal Flatts. The most “mainstream” artist who performed at the RNC was Kid Rock (anyone under 35 you may want to consult your local elder or google if you don’t know who this is.)
The RNC also featured their own version of Hollywood “talent.” They had Kimberly Brown, a former actress from the soap opera The Young and the Restless, and Chachi (Scott Baio).
It turns out that the RNC’s lack of star power wasn’t from a lack of trying. Reports are now surfacing that the RNC offered Justin Bieber a huge chunk of cash to perform at their convention. The Guardian reports that the singer was offered $5 million to play a 45-minute set at a venue near the convention, and they were even ready to pay up front. Organizers allegedly assured Bieber that his performance would not be political, and he did not have to endorse Donald Trump publicly.
Sources from inside the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the talent agency representing Bieber said that the singer was taking the offer under heavy consideration. After all, it would have been the biggest payday of his career. However, Scooter Braun, his manager wanted the singer to hold up a Black Lives Matter banner during his performance, and the RNC wasn’t warm to that idea.
But in the end, Bieber reportedly turned down the offer on based on Braun’s advice. Braun also happens to be a huge Hillary Clinton supporter who has hosted star-studded fundraisers for the Democratic presidential candidate attracting names like Kim Kardashian and Tom Hanks to his events.
TMZ also reports that RNC officials tried to entice Bieber further by promising that LeBron James would also be participating in a nearby event. However, James’ team are said to have informed Braun that the Championship NBA star wasn’t attending the event, and urged Bieber to decline as well.
