WATCH: GOP Lawmaker Says He’d Set Himself On Fire To Protest Abortion Rulings (VIDEO)

You know, there’s crazy and then there’s Oklahoma Representative Kevin Calvey. While speaking during a debate in the Oklahoma Senate last week Calvey said that if he wasn’t a Christian he’d light himself on fire to “protest evil” in the courts:

If I were not a Christian, and didn’t have a prohibition against suicide, I’d walk across the street [to the state Supreme Court building], douse myself in gasoline and set myself on fire to protest the evil that is going on over there….

Whoah!

The comment came as lawmakers were considering SB 548 which would give 6 percent raises, paid from court fees, for Supreme Court justices and other appellate court judges and employees. Calvey doesn’t think the court deserves raises because they have ruled against anti-abortion laws that have been passed in the state.

We have seen a whole lot of crazy lawmakers in recent years, but never has one been quite as batsh*t as Calvey. Seriously, what would setting himself on fire accomplish? Does he think that would make the court say,”Oh, this crispy guy is right! We must amend our ruling to adhere to his ideology and not the law.” I doubt it.

Beat me to it. I’m actually pro life. But intelligent enough to know there are times pro choice is the way to go. I do not approve of it being a method of birth control. That’s for prevention before the fact.

NOBODY uses abortion as “birth control”. Does. Not. Happen.

You are really pro-choice….think about it.

        • Thom Lee says:

Not true. There are some women who do not use the pill, a diaphragm or iud. They don’t require he use a condom. If/when they get pregnant. Not wanting children will get an abortion. If that’s not using it as birth control I don’t know what is.

In cases of rape, incest or likely death of mom I am definitely pro choice. Would I rather these situations never happen and every conceived child be born. You bet.

    I hope he does.

Hey, don’t let a little thing like religion keep you from doing what you need to do! Oh, that was just a bluff? Of course it was. You would never make a serious threat if you thought in any way you didn’t have a way out of it.

The dumb pandering to the stupid…..I hope it’s televised……we can all enjoy it…
