The Republican presidential race for the party’s nomination has gone far past the point of absurdity and the debates more resemble an episode of celebrity deathmatch than meaningful political discourse. Now, someone has launched a petition for what seems like a natural next step for this election year: “Make Jerry Springer host the next Republican debate.”
Under normal circumstances, this would seem like a ridiculous suggestion, but considering the fact that the last time the GOP candidates met on a debate stage the conversation devolved into a literal dick-measuring contest, it seems perfectly reasonable.
Most petitions include an informational section explaining what the petition is about and why readers should sign their name on the proverbial dotted line. This petition limits that to a single question: “Do you or do you not want to see Donald Trump throw a chair at Marco Rubio?”
As of Tuesday morning, more than 600 people had added their names to the petition, saying that yes, we would like to see the GOP presidential candidates bitch slap one another in true “Murican” style.
The Republican debates have gone downhill this primary season. In addition to the quandaries over the size of the candidates’ genitalia, there has been no shortage of name calling. Trump, who has promised to “bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,” called Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a “pussy” for not fervently supporting torture like the billionaire hatemonger.
Colin Powell recently called out the GOP candidates for their “junior high school tricks” during an interview with NPR, and brought up comments recently made in the Financial Times by Springer, a Democrat who was the Mayor of Cincinnati in the late 1970s.
Even Jerry Springer thinks it’s gone too far, and when Jerry Springer thinks you’ve gone too far, my friends, you have gone too far.
So far, Springer has not commented on the petition. If you would like to see Trump “throw a chair” at Rubio while Jerry Springer hosts, you can add your name to the petition here.
