There are two things that Republicans love equally: Ronald Reagan and assault rifles.
When it comes to Reagan they can’t seem to get enough of the guy. It doesn’t matter what they are talking about, or where they are. Always lingering in the back of their mind is “Reagan” and an urge to invoke his name. Reagan… Reagan… Reagan… If there was such a thing, they would literally have “Reagan Obsessive Disorder.”

When it comes to assault rifles, they are just as obsessed. Every Republican HAS to get a picture of themselves shooting one at some point. It’s like a special initiation to the club. “Vote for me because I was seen holding an assault rifle!” is the only qualification you need to get on a Republican ballot in America.
In an ideal Republican fantasy world, Reagan was the biggest proponent of selling assault rifles, the real reason he robbed Social Security was to buy them for every American, and every time you fire one you honor his memory.
As usual, reality does not mesh with Republican fantasy.
Ronald Reagan was absolutely against the idea of regular civilians from owning assault rifles. During a CSPAN event, he made his feelings perfectly clear:
I do believe, that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense.
For Republicans, Ronald Reagan is only the greatest president if you talk about the heavily redacted one. If it’s the one that sold weapons to Iran to fund illegal wars, raised taxes 11 times, or wanted to ban civilian ownership of assault rifles, they run away screaming.

Ron says nothing to deny the 2nd amendment.
The NRA and most of the GOP would prefer this clip was not available to the public. Reagan was very astute at gun ownership and what was and was not needed by the public at large. Too bad he wasn’t that clear on other issues.
Don’t knock on a republican’s door when you need protection from the terrorist who lives in your neighborhood. You can protect yourself. I’m sure your screams will stop their bullets just fine, their suicide bomb vests or their chemical weapon. I oray for your soul. However I would be willing to save your child and pet.
