Trump’s hostility towards the media has only ratcheted up since he assumed office. And his staff is even worse.
In a despicable interview, Trump’s senior adviser Steve Bannon - former owner of the white nationalist site Breitbart - tried to intimidate the press into giving Trump favorable coverage.
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Steve Bannon said during a rare interview with The New York Times on Wednesday.
“I want you to quote this,” Bannon told the Times. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
It’s easy to see why Bannon would want the media to shut up. Many reporters are finally reaching their breaking point with Trump’s lies and few seem to have any resevervations with calling Trump out on his lies anymore. In an unprecedented move, the New York Times even correctly called one of Trump’s latest lies a lie on the frontpage.

Nobody has stood up to Trump better than CNN’s Jake Tapper, who has repeatedly devoted time during his reporting to utterly dismantle Trump’s blatant fabrications.
So is he scared now that Steve Bannon is treatening him? It sure doesn’t seem like it.

Shut up? Here’s his answer. It’s simple enough that even Trump’s goons might understand it: “No.”
