It seems the strong protest surrounding Donald Trump’s executive order calling for immigration (Muslim) ban for individual countries is starting to cramp his self-congratulatory victory tour lifestyle. CNN reports that the president will not be able to attend his previously scheduled tour of the Harley-Davidson factory after the company concluded that it wasn’t comfortable hosting him. According to an administration official, motorcycle manufacturer cited the planned protests as the reason behind the cancellation.
Trump was scheduled to visit the factory on Thursday, where he planned to make a big show out of signing his executive orders aimed at boosting American manufacturing. White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham confirmed that the president is no longer scheduled to visit Milwaukee on Thursday.
On Tuesday night, Harley-Davidson issued a statement saying they “don’t have, nor did we have, a scheduled visit from the President this week at any of our facilities.”
“We are proud to have hosted Presidential visits at our facilities. Three of the last five presidents — Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — have visited us at our facilities. These visits are a testament to the pride and passion of our employees and their great work building Harley-Davidson motorcycles,” said Maripat Blankenheim, director of Harley-Davidson’s corporate communication. “We look forward to hosting the president in the future.”
In recent days, the massive protest was planned involving thousands of angry citizens who Trump triggered with his unconstitutional and likely illegal Muslim ban. Thousands of Americans nationwide continue to build up intensity calling for the ban to be struck down or reversed. Many congressional Democrats and a few Republicans publically stated that the discriminatory ban was counterproductive to U.S. international counterterrorism efforts.
That growing opposition has already reinvigorated Democratic efforts to slow down the confirmation proceedings for Trump’s cabinet nominees and could have lasting effects on the administration’s other legislative endeavors.
Looks like Trump will have to wait a little longer to have his big burly motorcycle riding supporters stroke his flaccid ego. Sad.
