This is beautiful, and we need more of it.
When Rep. Maxine Walters (D-CA) was asked about working with Trump, her response was nothing less than absolutely epic.
“Congresswoman Waters, you’ve been a long time serving Congress. You’ve served through several different presidential administrations. From your tenured opinion, what is it that the American people can really expect for the next four years out of President Trump?”
“Well, I hope he’s not there for four years. I hope that this man, and who he is, what he’s done, the way that he’s defined himself, the way that he’s acting, I am hoping we are able to reveal all of this. And my greatest desire is to lead him right into impeachment.”
Emphasis mine.
She followed up with another fantastic answer about “working with Trump”:
“But this business about working with him. Of course — they have control. Of the House, and the Senate, and the White House. Do they want to work with other people? Or do they just want to ramrod their public policy and their bills and their thoughts right past all of us because they’ve got the numbers? Or do they want to work with us? I think it’s on them to talk about how they want to work with us and listen to some of our concerns, and incorporate some of our concerns into their legislative proposals, etc.”
Of course, we all know that’s never going to happen. Republicans didn’t obstruct President Obama for eight years so that they could give Democrats what they wanted after he was gone. With Trump in the White House, they sense blood in the water and they’re going for everything they can.
