A Care2 petition surfaced online Wednesday which requests that the World Meteorological Association change the name of Hurricane Irma to Hurricane Ivanka and people are pouring in to sign it. The trolly petition which seeks to gather 10,000 signatures is close to making its goal with 8,318 supporters so far. The number keeps increasing as I refresh the page.
The petition takes issue with Ivanka Trump doing nothing to persuade her father to take an active role on climate change even though she “promised to try to influence her father on certain issues like climate change” and “has quietly accepted the administration’s lack of action on this very serious issue.”
“Ivanka Trump can say what she wants about climate change,” the petition states, “but as long as she quietly stands back, she remains complicit in the destruction we all face at the hands of her father’s administration.”
The petition cites the devastating damage from Hurricane Harvey and states that as “Hurricane Irma barrels through the Atlantic, residents of Florida and Puerto Rico are bracing for catastrophic damage, both having declared states of emergency. The category 5 storm has become one of the most powerful storms in the Atlantic ever.”
“Scientists have spoken out clearly about the impact of climate change on our storms. As air and water temperatures increase and sea levels rise, the severity of our storms and their potential for destruction increase as well,” it continues. “Hurricane Harvey in Houston was a prime example of how climate change makes hurricanes more powerful and dangerous.”
Here’s another good idea.
Instead of Ivanka, we should try to change Irma’s name to Hurricane Barack. Trump would be tripping over himself to undo anything it does.

Would it have fucking killed you to call it “Hurricane Ivanka” since it seems like it’s going to wipe out Mar-a-Lago?

I’m just waiting for Ivanka Trump to hand out champagne popsicles to hurricane survivors.

Pretty sure Hurricane Ivanka would have screwed more people over than Hurricane Irma.

If I was in charge of Naming Hurricanes I would have named it Hurricane Ivanka. Just to see the headline “Ivanka blows all of Puerto Rico”

Wrong to rename Hurricane Irma after Ivanka.
After all, Irma is a powerful fast moving storm while Ivanka is weak, powerless & ineffective.

Yes, I signed it. Don’t judge me, man.
