Pope Francis appears to have reignited his running feud with President Donald Trump after he made some off the cuff remarks during his weekly statement at the Vatican. The pope called for people to build bridges instead of walls, but also took another dig at Trump’s so-called “Christian” faith.
While Francis didn’t mention Trump by name nor explicitly reference the president’s proposed border wall with Mexico, he still managed to make the target of his remarks perfectly clear.
To not respond to evil with evil. To defeat evil with good, the offense with forgiveness. A Christian would never say ‘you will pay for that.’ Never,” Francis said.
“That is not a Christian gesture,” he added. “An offense you overcome with forgiveness. To live in peace with everyone.”
Last February Francis denounced Trump’s plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican Border and directly called out the then-presidential candidate’s Christianity.
“A person who thinks only about building walls — wherever they may be — and not building bridges, is not Christian,” he said, according to The Associated Press.
“I’d just say that this man is not Christian if he said it this way.”
Trump fired back calling the Pope’s remarks “disgraceful.”
“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful,” Trump said.
“No leader, especially a religious leader, has the right to question another man’s religion or faith.”
It’s astounding how much anger Trump manages to generate from even the most disciplined and peaceful people around the world. Trump’s policies are so incendiary and harmful that people like Pope Francis compelled to speak out in the strongest terms to condemn them.
He also continues to make fools out of the “Religious Right” who decided to flush their principals and beliefs down the toilet to help get him elected. They can hold all the awkward prayer ceremonies they want; Trump’s still a classless, narcissistic, heathen who will only serve himself.
Let’s just hope Trump can manage not to threaten the Vatican with nukes when he throws his mandatory Twitter tantrum over this.
