Donald Trump is currently throwing a fit over the “fake news” report about his 2005 tax returns that were leaked and revealed on MSNBC last night. That report showed that Trump paid an approximately 25% tax rate and failed to show any new unethical behavior - raising suspicions that Trump had leaked these documents himself.
On New Day this morning, David Cay Johnston (the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who had given the tax documents to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow) stated that there was a “possibility” that Trump had leaked this particular tax return to him on purpose. He said:
“Donald has a long history of leaking things. So it’s a possibility.”
Co-host Chris Cuomo agreed and said:
“For a leak this seems to be pretty good for the president. It was the best number to show how much money he makes, it doesn’t show anything nefarious and he winds up coming out looking like ‘see what’s the big deal?’”
You can watch Johnston expose Trump below:
However, Johnston did note that the White House seemed to be caught off-guard by this. Trump and his family members have also retaliated, attacking Maddow for releasing the documents.
Many others have also raised suspicions that these documents were leaked by the Trump administration, as the tax returns given to Johnston clearly say “Client Copy.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Trump was somehow behind all of this - he’s been worried about his tax returns getting out since day one, and he probably thought he could shut everyone up by leaking the one good tax document he had. Unfortunately for him, this has just raised more questions and suspicions.
