Creationists have a hard task. In the face of all empirical evidence to the contrary, they claim the Bible is an actual recording of history.
Individuals with the good sense to realize otherwise often have a field day with this claim, pointing out all the contradictions in the Bible. However, according to one creationist, that’s not a problem: See, these contradictions are there to weed out atheists and other non-believers, because . . . uh, reasons.
“If I was God . . .”
The Bible has more plot and narrative discrepancies than a B-movie, and this puts Biblical “fundamentalists” in a bind. They want to take the book literally, but the Bible itself doesn’t want to be.
That sure hasn’t stopped “fundamentalists” from trying, though. And Kent Hovind thinks he may finally found the silver bullet to lay to rest all criticisms.
While responding to a Christian who was troubled by a contradiction in the book of Acts on Monday, Hovind explained that if he was God, he would merrily lie in their own holy book, because this is what the Demiurge behind Creationism does — he lies:
If I was God. I would write the book in such a way that those who don’t want to believe in me anyway would think they found something. ‘Aha, here’s why I don’t believe.’
And then they could go on with their own life because they don’t want to believe God anyways. I would put things in there that would appear without digging to be contradictions. I don’t think that’s deceptive, I think that’s wise for the Heavenly Father to weed out those who are really serious.
Hovind continues, saying he made a choice to “believe the Bible until it’s proven wrong.”
“I know others who have decided, ‘I’m not going to believe it until you prove everything is right,’” he said. “Okay, you do whatever you want to do, but I made the opposite decision.”
Never mind the Bible proves itself wrong with contradictions. No, he wants to believe it until it’s “proven wrong.”
How do you disprove evolution? Through experiments and through observations. You come up with a hypothesis, you test it, and if you can verify it, then you and others can test it again.
How do you prove the Bible wrong? By these standards, you can’t. If blatant contradictions within its own text can’t prove it wrong, then nothing can. This is little more than, “heads I win, tails you lose.”
The rest of this is incoherent, self-contradictory babble. God lies in the Bible to mislead people so he can damn them to Hell. Yeah, your God is an asshole, Hovind.
