Curt Schilling, former American Major League Baseball pitcher, and World Series Champion in 2001, 2004, and 2007, the last two of which were with the Boston Red Sox, recently wrote on his blog about how he handled a couple of online trolls, after they made numerous vile and ridiculously disgusting comments about his daughter online.
He not only issued the perfect response online, but he ended up ruining their entire lives. Read on to find out how.
It all started when he went on Twitter to openly praise his daughter, Gabby Schilling, on her college acceptance to Salve Regina last week:
Having had an entire career playing professional baseball, you can almost assuredly say that Curt is pretty immune to a lot of the mean, nasty things that people can throw at him. You have to be – it’s baseball. But, the responses he received that were mostly directed towards his young daughter, he definitely WAS NOT prepared for. He immediately went into “father mode.”
On his blog he emphasized how shocked he was, and why these particular trolls should not be merely shrugged off, as being no big deal. Here’s what he had to say:
Now let me emphasize again. I was a jock my whole life. I played sports my whole life. Baseball since I was 5 until I retired at 41. I know clubhouses. I lived in a dorm. I get it. Guys will be guys. Guys will say dumb crap, often. But, I can’t ever remember, drunk, in a clubhouse, with best friends, with anyone, ever speaking like this to someone….
Here’s some of the tweets he received, that were directed towards his daughter:
He was so irked by what they did, that he didn’t just let this one slide (baseball pun intended), instead he decided to take action. He trolled them right back, and found out who they were in real life. Then, posted their information online.
‘The Sports Guru? Ya, he’s a DJ named Adam Nagel (DJ is a bit strong since he’s on the air for 1 hour a week) on Brook Dale Student Radio at Brook Dale Community College. How do you think that place feels about this stud representing their school? You don’t think this isn’t going to be a nice compilation that will show up every single time this idiot is googled the rest of his life? What happens when a potential woman he’s after googles and reads this?
After feeling he did enough to shed light on the first troll, he then proceeds to the next guy who attacked his daughter:
The other clown? He’s VP of the Theta Xi fraternity at Montclair State University. I gotta believe if Theta Xi is cool with a VP of one of their chapters acting like this I’d prefer to have no one I know in it. Also, does anyone attending Montclair State University have a student handbook? If so can you pass it along because I am pretty sure there are about 90 violations in this idiots tweets.
But, unfortunately, for the guys who were just ousted online, justice didn’t stop there. When a major celebrity takes to his official blog online and talks about such an inflammatory and highly charged issue such as this, people listen. And, they did, quickly.
Brook Dale Community College immediately suspended “The Sports Guru” Adam Nagel. And, he will have to show up to a special hearing being held by the school to further look into his “actions.” Turns out the guy that attended MontClair State University was a part-time ticket sales rep for The Yankees, The Boston Red Sox’s number one competitor. You think they rewarded this “college graduate” for what he did, even though Curt Schilling was a Red Sox? Nope. They terminated him immediately.
It didn’t even take a week for these trolls lives to be completely and utterly turned upside down, all because they were feeling brave behind a computer screen and thought they’d make fun of a famous baseball player’s little girl. The young men in question immediately either temporarily suspended or deleted their Twitter accounts, due to the barrage of responses they received after their stunt, that or they were just too embarrassed to show their faces online anymore.
Gabby showed her appreciation to her father by making a response of her own on Twitter:
Don’t know what I would do without you, I love you so much!!
Before declaring game over, though, Curt let it be known that he couldn’t troll every troll who said something bad about his daughter. It just would take too much time, and he’s a busy guy who has better things to do. But, he did issue this challenge:
If any of you internet sleuth’s want to take a stab at these ‘two other guys’ go ahead. They somehow thought they were funny and tough, too.
Something tells me that these other jokers wont be having such a very good fairy tell ending, either. Hopefully this sends a message to online trolls everywhere:
Maybe, you should mind your own business. Just a thought.
