A family is speaking out after surviving an armed robbery in which their 7-year-old son tried to kick one of the thieves’ ass with a stuffed animal:
In an interview Wednesday, the father recalled the events. Because the robbers are at large and for his son’s privacy, he did not want to be identified.
But he spoke out because he said he wants the crime solved, in part, so he can tell his son the robbers have been caught.
“It’s important for me to be able to say to him: ‘They’re not going to do this to anyone else,’ ” he said.
The two men barged into a Game Stop in Silver Spring, Maryland, and ordered a married couple to get on the floor while they had the cashiers open the register. The father asked for his son who was shopping in another part of the store and one of the robbers went to grab him. While most kids would have been terrified, this 7-year-old was completely unimpressed and started punching the thief with a stuffed Yoshi doll:
The Force is strong with this one and I imagine he doesn’t have to worry much about bullies at school. The manager gave the pint-sized badass the Yoshi doll to keep which he now carries around the house according to his father. “He feels like it’s being protected,” he said.
Police described the robbers as black men in their 20s, both about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds. They were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, gloves and masks.
Police said that anyone with information about the crime should call 240-773-5070. Those who wish to remain anonymous or be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000 can call 866-411-TIPS (8477).
