Almost 1/3 Of Americans Want The Government To Take Over The Government

A recent poll shows that 29 percent of Americans support the military staging a coup of the United States government. Apparently, they don’t realize that the military is the United States government.

The survey was done by YouGov and it appears that Americans in general believe that military officers are great benevolent leaders, despite the fact that they kill people (or train people to kill) for a living (that’s what war is).

YouGov’s latest research shows, however, that officers in the military are held in much greater esteem than their civilian superiors, and that they are widely viewed as having the best interests of the country in mind instead of their own selfish concerns. 70% of Americans believe that military officers generally want what is best for the country. When it comes to Congressmen, however, 71% of Americans believe that they want what is best for themselves, along with 59% for local politicians.

In other words, Americans desperately need heroes and since Nixon went and screwed that up for us, there are no more political heroes — with the exception of the ghost of Ronald Reagan.

Instead of changing our leaders the old-fashioned way, you know, by voting them out, 29 percent want the military to do it for them. 43 percent of Republicans want a military coup. Democrats, not surprisingly, aren’t quite as stupid. Only 20 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of independents support the idea of a military takeover.

Because every single citizen now believes they have a PhD in constitutional law, 43 percent of everyone would support a military coup if they feel that the government is violating the Constitution. Remember, this includes people who think that the Second Amendment is the only part of the Constitution and that the Supreme Court can’t determine the constitutionality of an issue.

The problem, of course, with the idea of a military coup, is that it’s just petulance speaking and well, coups happen in much more subtle ways, like with rigging elections. The idea that any given unelected military person would have an individual’s best interests in mind is even more ludicrous than the idea that a politician, who people are supposed to vote for with their interests in mind, is selfless. And really, Republicans, do you think that if the military staged a coup, they’d allow you to keep your guns?
