WATCH: Steven Colbert Just Did The Most Generous And Awesome Thing For SC Teachers (VIDEO)

The world of political comedy might be in triage following the loss of the Colbert Report and eventually Jon Stewart, but educators in South Carolina are on top of the world following a most magnanimous act by Stephen Colbert.

South Carolina’s GreenvilleOnline reported that the comedy king of Truthiness announced today that he will fund every existing grant request South Carolina public school teachers have made on the education crowdfunding website DonorsChoose.org. Making the  announcement on a live video feed Thursday at a surprise event at Alexander Elementary School in Greenville, Colbert shocked a room full of educators and schoolchildren. Partnering with The Morgridge Family Foundation ‘s Share Fair Nation and ScanSource, headquartered in Greenville, Colbert committed to fund nearly 1,000 projects for more than 800 teachers at over 375 schools at an impressive $800,000

Seeing as Colbert is a South Carolina native and a product of South Carolina’s public schools himself, this had a special place in his big old heart.

“Using the proceeds of the sale of my old set on The Colbert Report which we auctioned off, and with the generous matching funds from The Morgridge Family Foundation and ScanSource, DonorsChoose is going to flash-fund all 1,000 projects in South Carolina,” Colbert said. “Enjoy your learning, South Carolina.”(GreenvilleOnline)

Maybe he can hit up Kansas next. More important, let’s have a Kickstarter for Stephen Colbert’s fantastic beard.
