Why does it seem that these days, many police officers use their gun as a first resort, rather than a last resort? That’s what appeared to happen on a busy street in Brooklyn, New York.
According to the report from New York City’s WABC, police went to make an arrest in the Brownsville neighborhood. A crowd of people gathers to watch what is going on. There are also a number of police officers on the scene. The person police were looking for was not at home, but when officers tried to gain access to the house, a dog bursts out, onto the sidewalk. The dog jumps up on a person identified as a police lieutenant, but it does not appear that he attempts to bite her. Another officer panics, and fires his weapon at the dog, from point-blank range, but misses. The bullet ricochets off the sidewalk.
“Are you serious? There are kids out here!” one bystander can be heard yelling at police. Another man tells WABC that the bullet flew past his foot. “That’s when things really got crazy,” he says. “I’m pretty sure that’s not the procedure that they teach those guys.”
No one was hurt in the incident, and the dog was also captured, uninjured. But, of course, police had to make an arrest for a situation they provoked, so one person inside the house was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Here’s a report on the insanity, from WABC:
