Three-Year-Old Shoots Both ‘Responsible Gun Owner’ Parents In New Mexico Motel (VIDEO)

Another day in America, another toddler shoots his “responsible gun owner” parents. In this case, everyone involved was fortunate enough to live to tell about it.

According to KOB-TV, Justin Reynolds and his girlfriend Monique Villescas were staying in an America’s Best Value Inn, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday, along with their 3-year-old son, and two year old daughter, when the incident occurred. Reynolds says that they were about to order pizza, when he heard a gun go off. He describes what happened.

It was like if I was to get up shake your hand and sat back down. That’s how fast it happened. All of a sudden we heard a gun go off and the next minute I realized my girlfriend was bleeding. Then I sat down and realized I was shot too.

Albuquerque police say the boy took a 9mm handgun out of his mother’s purse, and fired one shot. That shot struck Reynolds in the buttock, exited around his hip, then struck Villescas in her right shoulder as she sat next to their two year old daughter. Reynolds says that he called 911, then grabbed some towels to try and stop his girlfriend’s bleeding.

Reynolds was treated and released from the hospital, but Villescas, who is eight months pregnant, is hospitalized in stable condition. Doctors are keeping Villescas for observation, in case she should go into labor early. The 3-year-old child who fired the gun and his 2-year- old sister are in the custody of the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department. The Albuquerque Police Department says that the district attorney’s office will review possible charges of criminal negligence against both parents.

Police issued a statement, saying in part:

The Albuquerque Police Department cannot emphasize enough that if you choose to be a gun owner ALWAYS secure and lock up your firearm out of the reach of children and adolescents.

Which is something you would expect “responsible gun owners” to already know, wouldn’t you?

Here’s a report, from KOB:

    Hilarious, I love these stories.

  • D Lemon

He was standing his ground!! ‘Murika!!!

  • Joe DiPuccio

Sound like two birds with one bullet !

    • yerflap54

Or 2 Birdbrain’s with one bullet?

  • Juan Herrera

I say let them. Let them arm all the teachers in Texas. I’m all for Darwin working his magic in these ridiculous states that need to secede.

  • glogrrl

How can the NRA talk about responsible gun owners with a straight face when these ridiculous things keep happening…..we’re getting them almost once a day these days!

    • betzinva

Well, these geniuses weren’t what’s defined as “responsible.” There’s no detail on the make of the gun, but if it was in her purse, or lying about w/out the safety on…..NOT a definition of responsible. If it was a gun w/out a safety, that toddler has one hell of a trigger pull strength.

      • Andrew

So therefore, perhaps there needs to be some kind of ‘responsibility testing’ carried out then, to ascertain whether people are able to handle having a lethal weapon in their care, perhaps like some kind of thorough background checks?

        • Greggrey Moore

The background on these two could be perfectly clean. What they need is training. That I could go for before gun ownership. It doesn’t say whether you own a gun or not. Just a card like a driver’s license that shows you passed the course. It falls in the definition of well regulated, doesn’t track gun ownership, an could prevent some of this. But, like driver’s licenses, won’t stop it.

          • YouKnowMe

Most ammosexuals think the mere ownership of a gun makes them responsible. “Sure I’m responsible-think an irresponsible person would own a gun? Don’t think so!”

          • Clive

Driving isn’t a right, let alone one protected by the Constitution.

          • Greggrey Moore

But the 2nd does say, well regulated, meaning trained and in good working order. And with rights, come responsibilities. Like the responsibility to not be a risk to the general public through ignorance or just negligence. The NRA is already equipped to do the training.

          • Clive

My first question, are you unaware of the fact that the NRA is not the only firearm lobby in the nation? My second question, are you aware at how strongly the NRA does push firearm safety?

Yes, the Second does contain the text “a well regulated militia” and the courts have not interpreted that to mean that only the national guard, military, and cops can own guns. Time and time again it has been interpreted to mean that the right to keep and bears arms shall not be infringed.

When you start lobbying for restrictions on who can own a car, I’ll believe that you actually care about public safety. Until that point, you’re just scared of an inanimate object and choose to blame the same instead of the person using it.

          • Greggrey Moore

I was not making a joke when I recommended the NRA for the training. And, if you read my post, I did not interpret the 2nd to mean that either. There are restrictions on who can operate a car, but like my suggestion having a license does not mean you have to own one. I think gun safety training for everyone would be a good idea. It would eliminate some of the blind fear of guns by much of the left and catch some of the stupid( like the people in the article).

          • DrAnnNP

No, they are not clean. He’s a convicted felon not allowed to be around guns. It was a 9 mm pistol, safety was off. It was loaded and left in her purse low enough for the child to reach it.

        • betzinva

There already ARE background checks. And no, I don’t favor anymore intrusion. Regardless of all the training in the world, people are going to do stupid and irresponsible things.

          • Andrew

But surely the US should be doing as much as reasonably possible to minimise all these accidents/mass shootings etc as possible. While i don’t agree with gun ownership (and i realise that a non-USA resident that my opinion means nothing) i just don’t understand the reluctance by so many folk to make responsible, well regulated (2nd Amendment’s words, not mine) gun-ownership such a priority.

          • betzinva

There are countless laws on the books. We have laws about seat belts that are routinely ignored, resulting in a lot of senseless death. ( BTW, Well regulated in the 2nd does not mean controlled by the Government, that’s a straw man). Our problem with these mass shootings, is not firearms, it’s mental health. The civil liberties balance, in regard to the involuntary commitment of the mentally ill, is currently severely tilted in the favor of the patient. Interestingly, the most firearms deaths in this country are tied to other crime, much of it centered on drug trafficking. Mass murder is actually down, statistically. (Parsing the crime statistics has become a spectator sport, to some extent, sadly, with rampant data manipulation)

          • DrAnnNP

Wait, this chick WAS part of a well regulated militia??? Naw, she just had a 9 mm in her purse for self defense.

          • betzinva

I never intimated she was, I was responding to Andrew. Also, I’m still wondering if it was a 9mm w/ a safety, or no. There’s a HUGE difference.

    • Clive

Probably the same way people talk about “responsible drivers” with a straight face when auto accidents are a leading cause of death in America.

    • MarkStolzoff

because these people obviously weren’t responsible gun owners . FYI 100 million gun owners yesterday went about their lives with no problem.

      • glogrrl

My point exactly……any damn fool seems able to get a gun with no training whatsoever in this country. It might surprise Americans that 80% of NRA members think background checks should be required before being able to purchase a gun The problem seems to be the NRA (Wayne Lapierre, I’m lookin’ at you) lobbyists and the lobbyists representing the manufacturers of guns. And with gun deaths now surpassing auto deaths in number annually, this can no longer be labeled an anomaly.

  • YouKnowMe

These are the people whom the NRA wants to grant unlimited access to guns. The NRA wants them to have MORE gun freedumb.

  • Jason Mills

Yup ONE idiot had a gun and her kid got it and everyone is saying it’s time to get rid of guns. Meanwhile drunk drivers are killing THOUSANDS of people each year and the media hardly ever reports it.

    • Joanne Piper

Yes, but with drunk drivers they take away their license to drive. Nothing ever happens to the gun owner, as they label these thing “accidental”. Maybe if they took away the now irresponcible gun owners guns, others would be more responsible.

      • DrAnnNP

Exactly!! You kill people in your car, you go to jail and lose your right to drive. You get too many DUI even if you don’t kill someone, you lost your right to drive. You can’t drive until you PROVE you know how to do so safely. Duh!!!

    • Darren Cohen

“everyone is saying it’s time to get rid of guns. ”

Uh, no they’re not. People are saying there should be common sense gun safety regulations - you know, like there are for driving.

      • Clive

Driving is not a right, let alone one protected by the Constitution.

  • Budhag Rizzo

Give the kid some credit! 2 targets with one bullet?

  • asher2789

yes, and us northerners were telling them to let the door hit them on the way out. we shouldn’t of bothered fighting the civil war. the south is too full of ignorant idiots running shit.

  • Jason Mills

Idiots are going to get a hold of guns just like idiots are going to try and say America shouldn’t have them. If a politician tells you that you shouldn’t have a gun you probably need a gun .

  • Clive

Clearly, these were not responsible gun owners. But, that’s asking a lot of complete idiots to understand.

  • DrAnnNP

    Darwin awards?

    • glogrrl

      Absolutely.
