According to New York Magazine’s Dailly Intelligencer, two sources say that 21st Century Fox Co-Chairmen Lachlan Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch, and CEO James Murdoch will remove Fox News Chairman and CEO from his position at Fox News sometime this week.
The sources also added that James Murdoch is the leading advocate for removing Ailes this week, while the other Murdochs are leaning toward waiting until after the Republican national convention before handing Ailes his walking papers.
So far Fox News has not issued a statement regarding this report. Meanwhile, 21st Century Fox issued a statement saying: this matter is not yet resolved, and the review is not concluded.”
Ailes is currently being sued for sexual harassment by former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who previously co-hosted Fox & Friends before anchoring her last show, The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson.
Carlson alleges that Ailes fired her on June 23 after she refused to have sex with him. Carlson also claims that Aisles and other Fox News employees engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment throughout her tenure at Fox News. She claims Ailes told her:
I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better.
Carlson’s lawyers chose not to comment on the most recent development, but her spokesperson Allan Ripp said,
Gretchen’s lawsuit continues and will continue no matter what happens to Roger Ailes status at Fox.
Ailes has continued to claim that Carlson launched a “retaliatory suit,” after she was let go from the network for “disappointingly low ratings.”
However, according to Carlson’s attornies, over a dozen women have come forward with similar allegations about Ailes.
