I don’t know why the myopathy of Fox News and of conservatives in general continues to surprise me, but every day, it seems, there’s something that makes me wonder if they are satire. Monday’s Fox & Friends was one of those times.
Brian Kilmeade, who is one of the less smart of the brain trust, suggested that sharks should be cleared from the waters. His comments were in response to a shark attack in South Africa and several shark attacks here in the U.S.
‘I think that the most shocking thing is that after you hear about the six attacks in North Carolina, okay, these are just swimmers,’ Kilmeade noted on Monday’s edition of Fox & Friends. ‘But then when you see a champion surfer and you have a three camera shoot and an overhead shot, [you] say, “Oh my goodness, it could happen anywhere.”’
‘You would think that they would have a way of clearing the waters before a competition of this level,’ he opined. ‘But I guess they don’t.’

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who is hardly Mensa material, chimed in, “If a three-time world champion surfer isn’t safe, who is?”
Here’s the video:
The number of shark attacks have been increasing lately, but that’s because of man, not because of sharks, although Fox will never admit that mankind is responsible for anything. As the water temperatures are rising, thanks to global warming, sharks are migrating north. Most are harmless and most that bite humans only do so accidentally, since humans are not their natural prey.
More importantly, sharks are critical to the ecosystem and unfortunately, we are clearing the ocean of them. Every year, we kill more than 100 million sharks. As their populations decline, so will the health of the ocean and of the fish that we eat.
