Fox and Friends viewers reacted in an unsurprising way when the show shared a clip about the Girl Scouts’ three-year-old decision to allow transgender children to be included in their membership.
In the clip, Penny Nance of the legislative action committee Concerned Women For America opined about the liberal shift the Girl Scouts have taken since the 1970’s and condemned the organization for fostering inclusion of transgender youth.
The Girl Scouts of America website states:
Girl Scouts is proud to be the premiere leadership organization for girls in the country. Placement of transgender youth is handled on a case-by-case basis, with the welfare and best interests of the child and the members of the troop/group in question a top priority. That said, if the child is recognized by the family and school/community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, then Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe.
But, as usual, conservatives can’t resist an opportunity to promote their brand of status quo and exclusion in the form of hateful bigotry and intolerance.
Never mind the increased rate of suicide for LGBT youth or the amount of torment these children experience on a regular basis. The Trevor Project states:
Nearly half of young transgender people have seriously thought about taking their lives, and one quarter report having made a suicide attempt.
They also state:
Each episode of LGBT victimization, such as physical or verbal harassment or abuse, increases the likelihood of self-harming behavior by 2.5 times on average.
It seems for Fox viewers, that’s acceptable. There is no need to reach out with loving arms and accept people for who they are – oh no – we must defend and even promote the status quo of hatred and bigotry, even within groups like Girl Scouts.
Would these people say these things to the six-year-old who identifies as a girl and would like to be part of the Girl Scouts? Sadly, I think a few would. But, it’s the liberals that are hateful. Right? These guys seem to think so.
And then there is the crowd that could rub elbows with Archie Bunker as he sang, “girls were girls and men were men.” Because, there is nothing better than continuing gender stereotypes like “learn to be a man” or condemnation of “girly boys” or you know, using the word “sissy.”
Some seemed to think this kind of inclusion was something being pushed onto the other girl scouts or that somehow a “majority rules” mentality equates to a valid moral argument.
The compassionate conservatism radiates through in these comments. . .
These people seem to think allowing seven-year-olds who happen to be transgender into the scouts is going to increase early pregnancy. Because, that makes complete sense.
Some of the commenters seem to think liberals belong in the middle east, forgetting that it is their own right-wing Christian rules that run the parallel to Sharia law.
Although, this guy seems to think we should place limits on our own acceptance because ISIS. Duh!
And sometimes, you just can’t help but hum a bit of REM while reading some of these comments.
And then, this.
In short, the answer to this question is yes. Boy Scouts should be equally as open to the transgender as Girl Scouts.
Last, but not least, this lady. She apparently is looking for a good deal for a mani-pedi and landed in the wrong place entirely.
