It’s a sad, heroic tale every pet owner will shed a tear over. A family dog lost its life last Friday in Atlanta, Georgia, shielding its owners from gunfire resulting from a road rage incident.
According to CNN affiliate WXIA, the violent exchange took place in a parking lot of a strip mall, where the angry, assaulting driver followed the victimized family and began shooting. Anonymous witnesses claim the German shepherd jumped between its owners and the gunfire as soon as the assailant pulled up next to the family’s car.
One witness stated:
They just rolled right up; they pulled a gun out and started clapping.
“Clapping” is slang for shooting, for those unaware.
To make the matter more horrifying, there were children in the victims’ car.
According to witnesses, the dog saved the life of a woman and a child in the car by shielding them from the gunfire.
Tragically, the heartbreaking footage of the dog trotting off to die behind a building nearby can be seen on a surveillance video.
Atlanta police Sgt. Gregory Lyon stated:
They were fired upon and their family was terrorized. They survived that only to find that their pet is now gone. It’s sad for the whole family, especially the day after Thanksgiving.
Shockingly, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, no arrests have been made as of yet.
