When science denial, religious obsession, and an incomprehensible hatred of facts collided with reality at a recent Omaha School Board meeting, we were treated to an entirely accurate display of “loving” Christian behavior. The Omaha School Board was considering an optional comprehensive sex education course, doing so resulted in the reported assault of an Athiest, threats to LGBT students and the newly dubbed psycho “Purity Mom” losing her sh*t over her five daughters’ maidenhoods.
Don’t take my word for it, here she is:
First of all, we already know that good sex education prevents the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), lowers abortion rates, and lowers teen pregnancy rates. Omaha’s religiot parents aren’t happy just teaching their children that a woman is really only worth her hymen’s weight in gold, and that masturbation will blind you and send you to hell.
They don’t want any teenagers knowing how to prevent pregnancy, or even how to keep themselves safe from diseases.
One parent, upset over rumors that the curriculum would teach different sex positions and how to masturbate, was quoted as saying:
That’s disgusting, children should learn about sex when they are adults!
So the question is, where are the rumors coming from? Well, social media posts, churches and other community organizations, including Nebraskans for Founders’ Values, a conservative Christian group. Yet again, right-wing Christian extremists would rather current rising trends of pregnancy and HIV in Omaha’s teens continue than allow any of them to learn actual science and facts about the human body.
