CO School District Promoted ‘Christian’ Training That Teaches Girls How To Find A Husband (VIDEO)

A Colorado school district is receiving some backlash after they sent a blast email to students’ parents which contained a flier promoting a fundamentalist Christian seminar called “Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty.” The program is meant to teach girls how to find a future husband and remain “pure.” The flier included the following Bible verse:

As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. Luke 7:38.

One parent contacted District 51 expressing her concerns with the communication, saying in an email:

The idea of a woman or girl (‘she’) crying at a man’s feet, then using her hair to wash his feet, then kissing his feet, seems pretty demeaning to me. Apparently the irony of this imagery used to promote an event which purports to strengthen or support girls/women is lost on all involved.

Communications Specialist Jeannie Smith replied, dismissing the complaint:

Dear Ms. *******,
Thank you for your response. Having reviewed the flyer and KHB-R per your request, we do not find that the flyer promotes a religious organization or demeans a person or group on the basis of gender.

Gee, that’s funny because clearly it DOES promote a religious organization. Wake Up MINISTRIES is the organization in which it promotes. And, that email strategically targeted the perfect demographic of clients Wake Up Ministries is seeking – young girls ripe for conversion into Christianity all done by tapping into parental fears about sexual development. It’s the perfect marketing plan really and it certainly furthers the organization’s mission statement which says:

Teach God’s covenant to the next generation so they might live their lives with blessings and not curses. Introduce them to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and show them how to seek God’s will for their futures.

That sounds like evangelism if I’ve ever heard it – right there in Colorado public schools. But, the district says not to worry – it’s not – because they say so. Oh, ok District 51, it’s totally cool not cool.

On the Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty promotional video a young girl testifies:

This course, ‘Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty’ has taught me a whole new standard of what to look for in a man.

Not to worry, Colorado parents of girls – this seminar promoted by the public school system will help little Suzy or Jenny learn how she can land her a man. Now that’s some schooling!

Hopefully, the parents in this district will continue to push against this blatant promotion of Christianity in the public schools. It really is disgusting.
