Monday morning yet another mass shooting rocked the United States, terrorizing innocent Americans. This time, the horror unfolded in Texas. One of the more disturbing details is that the gunman was wearing a full-blown Nazi uniform when he went on his violent rampage.
According to Interim Houston Police Chief Martha Montalvo, shots rang out shortly after 6 a.m. near a shopping center. When police responded to the scene they were able to locate the shooter quickly. The man promptly began firing at authorities. They returned fire and the gunman was found dead not long after.
“It’s my understanding that he was neutralized by police,” Montalvo said.
When the shooter’s body was found, he was wearing what looks to be an antique German uniform, complete with swastikas. Multiple weapons were found in the shooter’s car and a search of his apartment turned up even more Nazi paraphernalia.
Nine people were injured in the shooting, six were hospitalized; one in good condition, one in serious condition, and one in critical condition. Three others were treated and released in good condition.
The gunman is believed to be 46-year-old attorney Nathan Desai, who is listed as the owner of the vehicle police searched at the scene. He reportedly specialized in business, family, and criminal law. His father, Prakash, said that he had opened his own law practice but things had not been going well.
“He was worried … because his law practice was not running good, so he (was) worried about this all the time,” Parkash Desai said.
Neighbors say they recently saw him walking around their apartment complex with an assault-style rifle, including at one point pointing it at construction workers during an altercation.
Jennifer Molleda, who lives in the same condo complex as the shooter, says the most recent incident came a few weeks ago, when the man brandished an assault-style weapon at roofers in the complex. She didn’t have more details.
Texas has some of the weakest gun laws in the country. No motive for the shooting has been established.
