An Anonymous Hacktivist has shut down the City of Colombia, Missouri’s website as revenge for a five-year old incident of extreme police brutality and invasion of privacy.
During a February, 2010 raid on the home of Jonathan and Brittany Whitworth for suspected possession of large amounts of marijuana, the SWAT team shot two of their dogs, killing one. They also traumatized the family, including the Whitworth’s 7-year-old son.
The violent raid resulted in the arrest of Jonathan Whitworth for a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was released and received a $300 fine. The Whitworth family subsequently sued the Columbia Police Department in federal court, but the judge dismissed all charges against the Police Department and the 12 police officers involved in the home invasion and death of the family pet.
In light of the recent rash of publicized police brutality, the 5-year-old video of the event was brought to the attention of Anonymous and they took down the city’s website in retribution on December 24th at approximately 11:00 p.m. The website is still down as of 8:00 p.m. December 26, 2014.
The police raiding the Whitworth home as well as a brief note from Anonymous Hacktivist can be seen in the following video. Warning: Footage and audio are extremely graphic and violent.
