On the same weekend the NRA celebrated the freedom to own weapons in America, and to possess those weapons just about anywhere, at any time, comes another tragedy involving children and guns.
According to WEWS, Cleveland police say that a one-year-old boy was shot by a three-year-old, who got ahold of an unattended gun. Police are trying to determine where the gun came from, and how it fell into the hands of a toddler.
The shooting occurred in a neighborhood on the east side of the city, around 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12. The child, identified as Braylon Robinson, was rushed to the hospital, but died en route.
Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams called the tragedy “a sad day for Cleveland.”
Williams says that there was at least one adult in the home at the time of the shooting, as well as other children. He was blunt in his commentary on the situation.
This fascination we have with handguns, not just in the city, but in this country has to stop. This is a senseless loss of life in this city again” Williams said. “It’s directly related to guns. We need to really take a hard look at the things that we’re doing out there on the state, local, and national level to get some of these guns out of our community.
So, while the NRA was spending its weekend celebrating guns, and “freedom,” another child died from a gun left unattended. This, the NRA seems to think, is the price of freedom.
Here’s a report, from WEWS:
