MSNBC Turns Into Fox Lite, Gives Former Fox Talking Head A Brand New Primetime Show

MSNBC used to be the left-leaning network. They had an all-day line up of progressive news show after progressive news show. Important liberal voices – such as Joy Reid, Alex Wagner, Toure, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Keith Olbermann, and others – constantly countered the bigotry and lies peddled on right-wing radio and Fox “News.” Hell, during that era, their slogan was “Lean Forward,” in an unabashed and proud push to make sure that people knew just what side of the aisle that they are on.

Now, however, all of that has changed. First, we get three hours of former GOP congressman Joe Scarborough’s show every morning, via Morning Joe. Then, we get hours upon hours of straight news, in which more and more GOP politicians and strategists have been given guest platforms. They have even given analyst and contributor spots to former GOP politicians and strategists.

And now, it gets even worse, with the network continuing its steady march to the right with the hiring of former Fox News talking head Greta Van Susteren who will be getting her own show at 6 PM EST on week days. The show is called For the Record with Greta, which is suspiciously close to the name of her former Fox show, which was called On the Record, and was used to peddle the same right-wing tripe the rest of the network is used to spewing daily. The show replaces With All Due Respect, which was hosted by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, the guys behind Game Change, which pretty much eviscerated Sarah Palin’s 2008 vice presidential run.

Here in the era of Trump, it is more important than ever to have true progressives have prime platforms. If anything, that slot should have gone to Joy Reid, and instead they are giving it to this right-wing shill. Between Greta Van Susteren, Megyn Kelly going to NBC, and the three hours of morning hell that is Joe Scarborough, the once liberal NBC family may as well change its slogan to “Fox Lite.”
