Racist fliers titled “Why White Women Shouldn’t Date Black Men” were found posted in several dorms at the Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.
SMU student Taylor Nickens took a picture of the flier and sent it to NBC5:
The highly offensive flier warns women that if they date black men, they are “much more likely” to be abused and goes on to say that black men are “much more likely to have STD’s” and that their kids “probably won’t be smart.” The flier is credited to a men’s rights website as well as the “Alt-Right.”
SMU is a university that champions diversity and campus officials and students alike were more than disturbed by the flier.
“These messages have no place at SMU and are in opposition to SMU’s values and commitment to an environment free from discrimination,” the university said in a statement Tuesday.”
Graduate student Darius Saintus told NBC that he was “stunned” to learn about the flier. “Obviously, I’m bothered by it. I can’t even speak about it right now, but to see that posted on a campus [is] to generalize black men that way,” Saintus said.
NBC also spoke to SMU’s Association of Black Students President Mackenzie Jenkins:
“It’s truly disheartening. We have made great strides in making sure our campus is culturally intelligent,” Jenkins said.”
