Nobody can wrongly accuse Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson of having any sense. They can, however, talk about some of the outrageous, ridiculous, and downright offensive things he does say, which he seems to think are absolutely brilliant. Now, he has a brilliant plan to combat illegal immigration that’s bigger, better, and bolder than even that which Donald Trump has come up with: Make them all slaves.
Wait, what? Slavery? In America? In the “land of the free”? NOW? Yes. That is what Mickelson wants. He has said, according to Media Matters for America, that he would put up signs around Iowa saying:
’30 to 60 days from now anyone who is in the state of Iowa that who is not here legally and who cannot demonstrate their legal status to the satisfaction of the local and state authorities here in the State of Iowa, become property of the State of Iowa.’
Then, he explained it this way:
So if you are here without our permission, and we have given you two months to leave, and you’re still here, and we find that you’re still here after we we’ve given you the deadline to leave, then you become property of the State of Iowa. And we have a job for you. And we start using compelled labor, the people who are here illegally would therefore be owned by the state and become an asset of the state rather than a liability and we start inventing jobs for them to do.
That’s…slavery, and he knows it. He is consciously aware of it. When one caller asked that question, MSNBC reports that Mickelson said, “Well, what’s wrong with slavery? You think I’m just pulling your leg. I am not.” He also proposed using these slaves to build that wall along the southern border that Donald Trump wants so badly.
How is this kind of thinking even possible in 2015? Does this man seriously think there’s nothing wrong with this? His reasoning seems to say that, because they’re here illegally, they literally contribute nothing and are therefore worthless as people. They’re less than human. They’re pond scum. They’re the “pus that infects the mucus that cruds up the fungus that feeds on the pond scum.” They’re “amoebas on fleas on rats.” When people enter the country illegally, in this man’s mind, they become so subhuman that it shouldn’t matter what we do to them. That’s sick.
It’s not just this “idea” of his, either, that’s so sick. If a Latino is involved with the police, Mickelson automatically assumes that they’re not here legally, according to Right Wing Watch. He believes we shouldn’t settle refugees from war-torn Islamic countries, because “that’s an act of jihad.” We won the Iraq war, so they should deal.
One has to wonder what he’d say about people who look white that are here in the country illegally, or as a refugee (and make no mistake, they are here). This is racism on his part; these people are “browning” up America, and America is white, and we just can’t have that! Brown people can’t contribute to America in any meaningful way, to him.
Mickelson is a racist prick who really shouldn’t be on the radio. As far as conservative “shock jocks” go, he’s easily among the worst.
