In the overwhelming tidal wave of reaction that Donald Trump’s hate-filled, Fascist-like anti-Muslim comments have engendered, the Republican party is offering the other occupants of the presidential nominee clown car as viable options to a Trump candidacy. But not so fast, GOP. You may be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
Trump’s rhetoric is so outlandish and unapologetically offensive that y’all think ANYONE else would be a step in the right direction. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Senator Rand Paul introduced legislation just last week that sounded good on the surface. It was designed to prevent terrorists disguised as refugees from entering the U.S. However, detailed inspection reveals the amendment would ban refugees from 33 countries, most of which are predominantly Muslim. After Paul failed in this quest, he echoed Trump when he tweeted that the U.S. should cut off refugees and immigrants from “countries with active terror networks.”
Cruz was all over the place, actually voting for Paul’s amendment. Since the attacks in Paris last month, he has pushed for a religion-based admission process. Cruz drafted a bill banning refugees from countries with territory controlled by terrorist groups. However, he made an exception for Christians, actually stating,
There is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror.
I’ll just let that one hang out there for a while.
Jeb Bush is just as bad, stating that Syrian refugees should settle closer to their homeland, except .. of course … the Christians.
I do think there is a special important need to make sure that Christians from Syria are being protected because they are being slaughtered in the country. And but for us, who? Who would take care of the number of Christians that right now are completely displaced?
The rest of the nominees (Rubio, Christie, Huckabee, Carson and Kasich) all oppose the acceptance of Syrian refugees in the U.S. They just don’t have the balls to come and say why. Oh, they stand back and attack Donald Trump for his outrageousness, but they are essentially more of the same, with just a better ability to hide it.
So if you think Donald Trump dropping out of the race is the solution … think again. The REAL solution is ensuring that whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be, they don’t have a snowball’s chance of winning the White House.
