Of course he didn’t actually give his endorsement – Bernie Sanders is far too sane for his tastes – but now that Baby Libertarian, Rand Paul, is out of the running, Ron Paul is setting the record straight: Ted Cruz even creeps him out. So much, in fact, that even Sanders looks more appealing to him.
Strange as it may seem, on occasion Bernie comes up with libertarian views when he talks about taking away the cronyism on Wall Street. So in that sense he’s right. And occasionally he voted against war, [but] it is hard to find anybody since Rand is out of it that anybody would take a libertarian position.
It must be a very frustrating position to be in, as a three-time presidential candidate, to realize that the Right really has nothing to offer the American people. Not even the far-right libertarians, delusional as they may be, can find anything to say about their own candidates, and especially not Cruz.
Cruz, who has attempted now to frame himself as not only the hard-line right-winger, but also the hard-line evangelical, and the hard-line anti-immigration candidate, oh yes, and the best Reaganite, but now also the best libertarian. None of these things actually go together, seriously, you can’t be all of those things, that is why the Republicans have so damn many candidates — they refuse to compromise so need someone perfectly aligned with them to vote for. Which is rather scary when you see how many actually support a guy like Donald Trump.
As Paul said about Ted Cruz:
You take a guy like Cruz, people are liking the Cruz — they think he’s for the free market, and [in reality] he’s owned by Goldman Sachs. I mean, he and Hillary have more in common than we would have with either Cruz or Trump or any of them so I just don’t think there is much picking.
The really good news is that, according to Ron Paul — Daddy Libertarian — we won’t have any libertarians running for the White House:
