While the 2016 election cycle will most definitely go down as one of the most hateful and divisive political eras of our lifetime, it may also be known as one of the most bizarre.
Over the past several months we have seen candidates like Ben Carson make ludicrous statements about Joseph building the pyramids to use as grain storage; Carly Fiorina’s delusional accounts of watching videos of Planned Parenthood viciously chopping up fetuses to sell in some kind of imaginary black market body part scandal; and of course, the rise of Trump the insult candidate who makes so many bombastic, over the top statements, I won’t even bother listing them all here.
In an almost surreal incident at a Florida town hall on Sunday, the struggling Marco Rubio campaign was interrupted by a very angry yet seemingly confused heckler. But this heckler had no ordinary beef with the man Donald Trump snidely calls, “Little Marco”, as he jumped up in the middle of Rubio’s speech and accused him of trying to steal his girlfriend! Bewildered, Rubio could only seem to meekly utter “Jeez” as the odd man ranted,
He’s trying to steal my girlfriend. He’s trying to steal my girlfriend! He’s a little bit better looking than me, and that’s true, but he’s trying to steal my girlfriend. That’s the truth.
Within moments, security escorted the distraught man from the building as he continued to scream, “she doesn’t love me anymore!” and, “[she] doesn’t look at me in the same way anymore!”
As news reports of hate, violence, and racism taking place at Donald Trump rallies all over the country seem to infect the airwaves on an almost hourly basis, it’s nice to break up the monotony of viciousness with a good, old-fashioned loony, who is mostly harmless yet very entertaining.
