If you haven’t seen this video, it is one of the most precious things any Hillary Clinton fan or mom will love. Children have a unique way of getting excited or upset about anything. On this particular day, Aiden Gerety, from Manchester, NH, was quite simply beside himself because his mom Amanda Lopez Gerety was able to vote and he couldn’t. While mom was supporting Senator Bernie Sanders, count Aiden firmly in the HRC camp.
Watch as the camera pans to a brooding Aiden glaring at his mom while she asks him why he’s crying. He refuses to answer her and only continues to glare. His mom tries to convince him to explain to the world what is so important that it has him upset.
“Because I want to vote for Hillary Clinton,” he says.
“Oh and mama didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton? Oh, OK,” she says as only a momma could.
When Gerety posted the video to Facebook later that day she captioned it saying she didn’t know that he was such a huge fan.
“I have NO idea where this obsession came from, but it certainly wasn’t from Tim or I. I literally had to pretend to call the place to tell them I wanted to change my vote to get the tears to stop! 😂😂😂😂”
ABC News reached out to Aiden’s parents who said
I think he must have seen a commercial, one of her ads. I don’t know where it came from, it was very random. He got very upset and said ‘No, I want to vote for Hillary Clinton’ … and he got more and more upset about it.
Aiden’s mom is like many parents who will go to the polls during the primaries and in the general election this year. But unlike many parents, they brought their son as part of the process. Kids Voting USA is a national organization that works to instill the values of voting and citizenship in children from an early age. For the last 45 years they have worked in K-12 schools to hold mock elections to help youth participate in the process even though they can’t vote.
Hopefully, more parents will see this video as adorable, but see the deeper importance of bringing a youngster to the polls. Instilling the value of civic engagement and the advanced citizenship that is our democracy is one of the best ways to ensure your child is an active voter in the future.
