Tonight is the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which is when celebrities pretend to be politicians and the mainstream media awkwardly laugh at jokes at their expense. It’s also the one night out of the year when President Obama can truly flex his comedy chops.
Even if Republicans think he will run a third term, this is the last year we will get to see President Obama rip up the sage with some stellar political quips. If there’s one thing that President Obama’s most strident critics can admit, it’s that he has a wicked sense of humor and excellent comedic timing. As a comedian, I can honestly say that the president can entertain a crowd without needing an overworked joke writer. Seriously, President Obama needs an HBO comedy special after leaving office.
Like pretty much everything under the sun, President Obama has faced ridiculous Republican obstruction on getting his pick for the Supreme Court agreed upon by Republicans in the Senate. So he did what he does best: makes them look like the complete and juvenile idiots that they are.
