New Yorkers watched in amazement today as a man used suction cups to scale Trump Tower. The as-yet-unidentified man began climbing the outside of the building Wednesday afternoon, leading to an hours-long standoff with NYC police.
Some in the crowd watching on Madison Avenue thought it was a movie shoot or a stunt but the arrival of the police made it clear that this was a man climbing a building. It was real and dangerous. The fear was that the man would fall. He was eventually captured at the 21st story of the building when police knocked out a window to grab him. The man was wheeled out on a stretcher and taken to Bellevue Hospital for overnight observation.

Authorities had no idea why the man was doing this until they found a video he posted on YouTube not long before he began his tower climb. In the video, a young man in a hoodie addressed Donald Trump Directly:
Hello Mr. Trump. Do excuse my manner of appearance, I just don’t know how many people will watch this, and I would rather not be recognizable. I am an independent researcher seeking a private audience with you to discuss an important matter. I guarantee you that it is in your interest to honor this request. Believe me, if my purpose was not significant, I would not risk my life to pursuing it. The reason I climbed your tower was to get your attention. If I had sought this via conventional means I would be much less likely to have success because you are a busy man with many responsibilities. I’ll get my contact information to your campaign so that if you are interested you can respond.
The man then reminds viewers to vote for Trump in the 2016 presidential election before ending the video. Police have confirmed that the man in the video and the tower climber are one and the same. They will only say that he is 20-years-old and from Virginia.
The Trump organization was not amused by the stunt. They released a statement soon after the man was taken into custody:
This man performed a ridiculous and dangerous stunt. There’s damage to the building and he caused the unnecessary deployment of New York’s finest to protect his safety and the safety of everyone in the building. He’s caused the shutdown of traffic on Fifth Avenue. I’m 100 percent certain the NYPD had better things to do.
Trump was not in the Tower — which houses his campaign headquarters and his home — as he was holding another
mob rally in Abingdon, Virginia. Consequently, the Secret Service will not be involved.
What is it about Donald Trump that draws out the weirdos?
