President Bill Clinton is almost a regular on The Daily Show, but Wednesday night was a bit melancholy as it was the last time Jon Stewart will interview Clinton.
Stewart opened the interview in true Stewart fashion, by asking if Donald Trump’s entry into the presidential race in any way swayed Clinton’s opinion on voting for Hillary.
Clinton, who has been particularly diplomatic about the GOP field, weighed his words very carefully but he said, “I’m still the spouse of a presidential candidate.”
He called Trump’s speech “vintage Trump” and said that Trump has been “uncommonly nice” to him and Hillary. According to Clinton, Trump thought Hillary was a good Senator from New York and he supported the Clinton foundation, which may be why he was so complimentary.
Stewart asked Clinton if Trump was less a Republican and more a “Trump-o-crat,” who wants to put his name on the White House.
Clinton was critical about Trump’s comments about Mexican people:
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.
Stewart called the comments “bizarre.” Clinton called them “wrong.”
They went on to talk about the Trans Pacific Partnership and Clinton noted that with countries where we have trade agreements in place, we have near equal trade and with countries like China, where we have no trade agreement, it’s far from equal.

Bill Clinton is always insightful and educational, and as Stewart noted, his memory is incredible. It just reminds me how much we’ll miss Jon Stewart when he’s gone.
