In a move eerily similar to the claims that presidential candidate Donald Trump paid actors to appear as supporters at his June 16 campaign launch, the membership list of the recently formed “Veterans for Trump Coalition” contains the names of veterans who HAVE NO IDEA they are members. We all know that Donald Trump bloviates seemingly at will, with an inexhaustible supply of hot air to fuel his tangential ranting. Surely he wouldn’t attempt to use military veterans to bolster his campaign, would he? It appears that YES — HE WOULD!!!
The New Hampshire-based Coalition was formed days after and in response to backlash Trump received for his recent John McCain “is not a war hero” remarks. In announcing the formation of the coalition, Trump’s organization is quoted as saying:
These veterans have pledged their support to Mr. Trump in the primary, and they will be advocating for him.
Three veterans interviewed by The Guardian adamantly state that not only are they NOT members of the Coalition, but that they are not currently campaigning for or supporting Mr. Trump in the upcoming primary elections.
‘I don’t know anything about it,’ said 88-year-old, World War II-veteran Ernie Fusi. ‘I don’t like it… ‘Cause I haven’t given anyone permission to send my name around.’
An email response from a Trump campaign spokeswoman stated:
The campaign has written confirmation of support from each of the individuals listed as part of the New Hampshire Veterans Coalition, including those quoted in this story. We are extremely proud to have their support.
DONALD TRUMP ATTACKS JOHN McCAIN, A DECORATED WAR VETERAN; NOW HE WALKS ON THE BACKS OF HONORABLE SERVICEMEN, SQUEEZING THEM AS SO MANY SPONGES TO EXTRACT THE LAST OUNCE OF CREDIBILITY THEY CAN PROVIDE!
It appears that the Veterans for Trump Coalition is, like The Donald’s hairstyle, a fantastical creation of his own imagination.
