Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential debate, which featured Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, and former Virginia Senator Jim Webb. As expected, Donald Trump decided to spew all over Twitter about the event. Also expected is his stereotypically Trump-ish assessment of what was said in the debate. He summed all that up with this retweet:
How completely unoriginal. Surely The Donald can come up with something better? Alas, he can’t. He tried to attack Hillary Clinton for her alleged “crimes” (read: email scandal), and failed miserably:
One of the most amusing things about everything he tweeted and retweeted is that, in live-tweeting the debate, he made the whole thing about how great he is instead of why he’s a better choice than anybody on CNN’s stage tonight.
At one point, Trump decided he wanted to go on the offensive with the black lives matter question. Host Anderson Cooper asked the candidates, “Do black lives matter, or do all lives matter?” Senator Bernie Sanders replied with, “Black lives matter.” Naturally, Trump responded to that with this:
This is The Donald trying to paint Sanders as racist against whites. However, had The Donald been listening, he would also have heard this:
And the reason – the reason those words matter is the African American community knows that on any given day some innocent person like Sandra Bland can get into a car, and then three days later she’s going to end up dead in jail, or their kids are going to get shot. We need to combat institutional racism from top to bottom, and we need major, major reforms in a broken criminal justice system in which we have more people in jail than China. And, I intended to tackle that issue. To make sure that our people have education and jobs rather than jail cells.
(We can assume this probably wouldn’t have mattered.)
The question was posed to Sanders and O’Malley. Anderson Cooper asked Hillary what she would do for the black community that Obama hasn’t yet done. While she could have, and should have, said whether black lives matter regardless of what she was asked, that’s why she didn’t answer that specific question.
Trump also decided to puff up his chest and pretend he’s a tough guy by saying:
Because he’s so intimidating to the world. Right.
And, also, yet another retweet, just to remind all of America that this is really about him:
Is it any wonder that people other than the lowest common denominator to which Trump caters thinks he’s a joke?
