Trump’s Statement On Orlando Shooting Is So Horrific It Should Disqualify Him From Presidency

We knew that Donald Trump is a craven, power-mad, egomaniac. But it has seldom been on such display as it is in his statement on the Pulse nightclub shooting. He begins with the three words that right-wingers drool over, “radical Islamic terrorist.”

Last night, our nation was attacked by a radical Islamic terrorist. It was the worst terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11, and the second of its kind in 6 months. My deepest sympathy and support goes out to the victims, the wounded, and their families.

Those sympathies aren’t very deep, as Trump sides with the NRA. He mentions 9/11 and alludes to the San Bernardino attack, too. Triple score.

In his remarks today, President Obama disgracefully refused to even say the words ‘Radical Islam’. For that reason alone, he should step down. If Hillary Clinton, after this attack, still cannot say the two words ‘Radical Islam’ she should get out of this race for the Presidency.

Process that. A sitting President — and a great one — should resign because he refuses to speak words in the precise way that right-wing instigators would wish. And, of course, the woman who would follow him must be held to that same stupid measure. Never mind that experts have said that using those specific words plays directly into the hands of DAESH. Why do you do what the terrorists want, Donald?

If we do not get tough and smart real fast, we are not going to have a country anymore. Because our leaders are weak, I said this was going to happen – and it is only going to get worse. I am trying to save lives and prevent the next terrorist attack. We can’t afford to be politically correct anymore.

Tough and smart? Well, then let’s get busy on those gun laws. But not before Trump gets in some first-class self-aggrandizing. He said this was going to happen. He is trying to save lives. If that were true, he wouldn’t have kissed the NRA’s guilty ass. But that’s a different kind of political correctness.

Hillary Clinton wants to dramatically increase admissions from the Middle East, bringing in many hundreds of thousands during a first term – and we will have no way to screen them, pay for them, or prevent the second generation from radicalizing.

Um, actually we do have a way to screen them. It’s a process that takes two-to-three years. Pay for them? Trump makes the stupid assumption that all immigrants, when they finally are allowed into the U.S., apply for welfare. Immigrants are actually good for the economy.  As for Clinton, she says that she will create an Office of Immigrant Affairs, which can only help the situation. We have second generations — and third, fourth, fifth, etc. — who are radicalized all the time. But it’s not Islam that they practice. It’s the dominant religion in America, Christianity. But they’re okay. We never hear politicians rage about them.

We need to protect all Americans, of all backgrounds and all beliefs, from Radical Islamic Terrorism – which has no place in an open and tolerant society. Radical Islam advocates hate for women, gays, Jews, Christians and all Americans. I am going to be a President for all Americans, and I am going to protect and defend all Americans. We are going to make America safe again and great again for everyone.

Note how he capitalized the words, “radical Islamic terrorism.” He wants to make it a catchphrase. Something he can throw out to the radical Trumpites at his rallies. On the one hand, he calls America an “open and tolerant society,” while, on the other, he continues to stoke xenophobia. “Radical Islam” may advocate hate, but Trump is helping them along.

This statement is nothing more than a handy piece of propaganda for the Trump campaign. It does nothing more than lionize Donald Trump. Once again, we see that there is nothing that can happen that will prevent Trump from using it as a political football. Even something as horrific as the Pulse tragedy.
