Trump’s Pick To Head The NIH Called Autistic Kids ‘Brats’ Who Should ‘Cut The Act Out’

Donald Trump is not the smartest presidential candidate we’ve got, and that’s probably why he’s polling so well with the anti-intellectuals on the right. They like that he walks, talks, and acts like one of them, despite his billions of dollars. He’s made yet another idiotic move, though. He believes that appointing radical right-wing radio host, Michael Savage, to head the National Institutes of Health, would bring some much-needed “common sense” to the agency.

According to Media Matters for America, Savage believes that autism is one big lie. It’s a huge racket in the medical industry and essentially doesn’t exist. In 2008 he said:

I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’

Following a massive backlash for that, ABC News reported that he doubled down on his offensive and ignorant remarks, saying:

My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community’s attempt to label too many children or adults as ‘autistic’ … Just as some drug companies have overdiagnosed ‘ADD’ and ‘ADHD’ to peddle dangerous speed-like drugs to children as young as 4 years ofage, this cartel of doctors and drug companies is now creating a national panic by overdiagnosing ‘autism,’ for which there is no definitive medical diagnosis!

Savage has also called people who suffer from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder “losers,” saying, according to Media Matters:

I am so sick and tired of everyone with their complaints about PTSD, depression. Everyone wants their hand held, and a check — a government check. What are you, the only generation that had PTSD? The only generation that’s depressed? I’m sick of it. I can’t take the celebration of weakness and depression.

In regards to running the NIH, Savage believes there’s no honest science anymore, and his “proof” for that is the global warming “hoax.” Media Matters quoted him as saying:

We have such corruption right now in science itself that there’s virtually almost no real honest science anymore and the best evidence I have for that is the fake global warming research. Almost every study comes out that’s warped. It’s all corrupt … When you become president, I want you to consider appointing me to head of the NIH. I will make sure that America has real science and real medicine again in this country because I know the corruption. I know how to clean it up and I know how to make real research work again.

This is the man that Trump would want to head up the NIH? Savage is someone who would do everything he can to sabotage real science because actual, real research will point to exactly the things that he and Trump seem to want gone. What would Savage do to the NIH to make their science come out the way he wants it? What pseudoscience would start pouring out of there? If his, and Trump’s, goal is to turn us into a truly third-world country, this is a fantastic way to do it.

These two are part of the paranoid, moronic anti-science crowd; they likely don’t trust science because they don’t understand it and because it proves their ways of thinking wrong. They’re tough talkers, so of course they don’t believe in autism or mental illness. That’s all weakness caused by political correctness, coddling, and refusal to parent properly. Of course, they think that climate change is a hoax, because action to combat it is expensive and requires companies to (gasp!) practice some responsibility. It’s too hard to deal with, so somebody has to make it stop!

Since Trump is the current Republican frontrunner, this is very scary. The NIH is one of the last places the anti-science crowd should be sticking their fingers. We’d be in trouble if this were to ever happen.
