A protest by 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick against systemic bigotry in our country has sparked a response so hideously hypocritical it could only have come from Donald Trump. When addressing Kaepernick’s choice to remain seated during the national anthem, Trump invited the man to self-deport, saying “maybe he should find a country that works better for him.”

“Well I have followed [the Kaepernick story], and I think it’s personally not a good thing. I think it’s a terrible thing. And you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it won’t happen.”
The drowning hypocrisy here is in the fact that Donald Trump’s entire platform is a protest against the establishment, against a perceived lack of greatness in certain aspects of this country; Exactly what Kaepernick’s choice to sit during the national anthem was. He wasn’t running from our country, he was literally standing up (or rather, sitting down) to try to change what is wrong with it.
However, the hypocrisy doesn’t cover the full depth of the disconnect that Trump just displayed with an understanding of what freedom in America means. While it is important to distinguish that one is not required to agree with Kaepernick’s protest, neither his method nor his cause, calling for him to be punished for simply exercising his freedom of speech is anathema to the principles that this country embraces.
This viral post, by Doomsday Jesus, is a slam dunk when it comes to this new commentary:
The meme reads:
If you claim to love freedom, but want this man punished for exercising it, just go ahead and admit that you have no idea what the concept of freedom is.
It seems that Donald Trump is one of those that “love” freedom but have no idea what it actually means and deserves the strident middle finger handed out here. He keeps proving over and over again that the small percentage of Americans who wholeheartedly embrace the xenophobic, bigoted, misogynistic platform that Trump promotes is all about keeping the power with the white male majority. Keeping it out of the hands of people they don’t see as having equal import or weight; those who are different.
People who are not like them don’t have the right to even protest as they do, apparently.
