Maine Governor Paul Lepage’s recent comments claiming that “90 percent” of the drug dealers in his state are black or Hispanic (because he has a picture book) sparked a backlash, of course. So he decided to leave a voicemail threatening and abusing a state lawmaker for calling him a racist for saying racist things.
And, in case that didn’t make him look like a completely unqualified and hateful buffoon, he then leaked it to the press, along with his desire to shoot the lawmaker in the head.
The voicemail, which was in response to the lawmaker daring to call the racist a racist, said:
“Mr. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard LePage, I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist. You cocksucker, I want to talk to you. I want you to prove that I’m a racist. I’ve spent by my life helping black people and, you little son of a bitch socialist cocksucker, I want you to record this and make it public because I am after you. Thank you.”
Apparently, the method that Lepage used to arrive at his conclusion was to gather a three ring binder of photographs depicting those arrested for dealing drugs. It is well known that there is a stark racial disparity in the United States when it comes to arrests. However, that fact didn’t seem to be taken into account by the totally not racist assumption that a picture book gives all the answers and context to whom is committing crimes.
Lepage is well known for his racist commentary, and has been championed (much like Donald Trump) by David Duke, the former KKK grand whatever, for his assertion that drug dealers are impregnating “young white girls.” But, he doesn’t want to be called a racist, apparently, because that makes him mad.
After leaving the despicable, unprofessional, low-life voicemail, the Governor himself leaked it to the press. Not just that, but his desire to shoot the lawmaker in the face, 1800’s duel style, because he doesn’t like being labelled according to his actions. And, because he is angry, he apparently thinks that he should be allowed to literally kill the man calling a spade a spade.
He told the Portland Press Herald:
“When a snot-nosed little guy from Westbrook calls me a racist, now I’d like him to come up here because, tell you right now, I wish it were 1825. And we would have a duel, that’s how angry I am, and I would not put my gun in the air, I guarantee you, I would not be (Alexander) Hamilton. I would point it right between his eyes, because he is a snot-nosed little runt and he has not done a damn thing since he’s been in this Legislature to help move the state forward.”
In the same speech in which the Governor asserted that 90 percent of the drug dealers in Maine are black or Hispanic, he attacked the Gold Star family that stood up to Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention, calling the father Khizr Khan a “conman.”
This is the level to which the rampant hatred, racism, bigotry, and low-level discourse of Donald Trump and those like him have dragged American politics — these hatemongering dinosaurs need to go.
