Megyn Kelly’s long-awaited interview with presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump aired on Tuesday night. Although for the most part it was a softball interview, at one point she did confront him about his repeated attacks on her and his multitude of tweets laden with misogynistic insults. In particular, she called him out for calling her a “bimbo.”
Trump almost apologized for his disgusting behavior. Not quite, but almost.
When Kelly questioned him about his campaign’s behavior and his attack towards her, Trump tried to blame it all on his supporters, saying he has an “unbelievable bond” with his fans. Kelly wasn’t going to let him weasel out of an answer that easily, though. She pointed out that “it isn’t just his fans,” as he himself has a habit of retweeting the filth sent out by his supporters.
Trump defended himself by saying that he didn’t send out “the more nasty ones.”
You would be amazed at the ones I don’t retweet,” said Trump.
Kelly countered him with just one word: “Bimbo.”
Trump began to squirm in his seat and actually managed to look a little bashful as he feigned humility.
Uhhh, well that was a retweet. Yeah, did I say that?” asked Trump
“Many times,” responded Kelly.
“Ooh, okay. Excuse me,” Trump replied.
Of course, Trump wasn’t about to simply take responsibility for his juvenile behavior. Just to make sure his words couldn’t be confused for a real apology, he gave the following excuse:
Over your life, Megyn, you’ve been called a lot worse. Is that right, wouldn’t you say? You know, you’ve had a life that’s not been that easy.
Kelly had to hit him just one more time. “It’s not about me. It’s about the messaging … to young girls and to other women,” she pointed out.
