Once upon a time, Donald Trump really, really liked the Clintons. In fact, he liked Bill and Hillary so much he invited them to attend his wedding in 2005, contributed to the Clinton Foundation, gave Bill access to his gold courses and sang Hillary’s praises in interviews. However, all of the love that he had for the former president and secretary of state is all gone and an excerpt from a new book may explain why he feels so much animosity toward the couple.
According to Joe Conason in the soon to be released book Man of the World: The Further Endeavors of Bill Clinton, Donald Trump was really upset that Chelsea Clinton did not invite him to her wedding in 2010:
And finally there was Donald Trump, who had hosted a somewhat reluctant Bill and Hillary at his third wedding in 2005. The real estate mogul was the sort of person who, though not an actual friend, still aspired to attend Chelsea’s wedding, which he clearly considered a prestigious event…And having given Bill Clinton free access to his northern Westchester golf club, Trump National, where he proudly hung photos of the former president — and had even cleared the links once for the Clintons to play on Bill’s birthday, Trump may well have felt they owed him. So when the wedding invitation didn’t arrive, he called Doug Band to try to invite himself.
‘I’m supposed to be at the wedding, Doug,’ said Trump briskly, ‘but I didn’t receive the invitation, and I need to know where to go.’ Band knew Trump wasn’t on the list, of course, and politely urged him to get in touch with Chelsea for directions. At that point, the would-be wedding crasher apparently gave up.
Apparently, Trump was so bitter about not being invited to the wedding when he saw an ad for the estate that hosted the wedding he told Page Six that it was horrible. “Over the years, I’ve seen many tacky things take place in the wonderful world of real estate, but never have I seen anything so bad. It was disgusting, and if I were Bill or Hillary Clinton, I would never speak to their ‘good friend,’ the owner, again.”
Donald Trump is all about keeping up appearances and faking relationships with people in order to make himself look more important than he really is and this is further proof of that. He had no business attending Chelsea Clinton’s wedding, but that didn’t stop him from trying to crash it because he was so sure that he deserved to be there. And when he wasn’t able to attend (because nobody wanted him there) he decided to insult the Chelsea by saying her wedding venue was “disgusting.”
This is typical Trump behavior. Instead of behaving like an adult when he doesn’t get what he wants, he resorts to insults. He’s a grown ass man who is more immature than my 11-year-old son and it’s pathetic really. Can you image how he’d behave if he were president? He’d probably hold press conferences just to insult people. Screw using Twitter, he’d have a much bigger podium to screech from. <Shudder>
