Poor widdle Donnie Trumpkin can’t deal with it when someone bests him in a fight. He can’t handle someone outwitting him, especially when he’s busy trying to belittle them in front of everyone. That’s what he tried with Bob Corker today on Twitter, when he called him “Liddle Bob,” in the same spirit with which he called Ted Cruz “Lyin’ Ted,” “Marco Rubio” “Little Marco,” and Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary.” He said:
The Failing @nytimes set Liddle’ Bob Corker up by recording his conversation. Was made to sound a fool, and that’s what I am dealing with!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 10, 2017
Yeah, there’s a serious fool here, but it’s not Corker. Corker didn’t just know Jonathan Martin-the Times reporter to whom he spoke-was recording the conversation; he asked him to do so. Two of his aides were in on it too, with one likewise recording the conversation:
Far from being set up, Mr. Corker asked that I tape our conversation.
“I know they’re recording it, and I hope you are, too,” he said as two of his aides listened in on other lines, one of them also taping the interview.
Furthermore, Corker’s comments weren’t off-the-cuff. He wasn’t just flying off the handle at some reporter hoping that the conversation was off the record, or just totally forgetting that he was talking to the media. Martin also said today:
“His previous remarks, in the aftermath of Mr. Trump’s equivocal response to the bloodshed in Charlottesville and in defense of Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson last week, were deliberate and carefully planned.
As was his scorching attack made during our phone call on Sunday.”
Corker had made a complete and utter fool of Trump before Trump even knew what had happened. So who had the last laugh?
It wasn’t Donald Trump.
