In the latest of many completely morally ambiguous, incalculably ridiculous, and downright unethical campaign strategies, Donald Trump has now taken to repeating unverified tabloid headlines in a bid for votes in Indiana. This has, understandably, angered Ted Cruz.
On Fox and Friends, Trump was expounding on how disgraceful it is that Ted Cruz’s Evangelical father is attempting to undermine him with Evangelical voters. Trump suddenly turned into a completely off-topic rant linking Cruz’s father to LEE HARVEY OSWALD, the man who assassinated John F. Kennedy.
The story Trump was referencing is from none other than one of the most well-known “anonymously sourced,” shock “journalism” tabloids around, The National Enquirer, which incidentally endorsed Donald Trump for president back in March and has been “coincidentally” hammering Cruz on its front page ever since.
His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot [Kennedy]. I mean, this whole thing is ridiculous. What is this? Right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up! They don’t even talk about it. That was reported, and nobody talks about it. I mean, what was he doing? What was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting. It’s horrible.
In response, Ted Cruz scheduled a hasty press conference in which he blasted Donald Trump as a textbook “pathological liar”:
